The Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization is delighted to announce that the UFC 105® preliminary contest between Brit brawlers John ‘The Hitman’ Hathaway and ‘Relentless’ Paul Taylor will be televised live via the UFC media player on the Daily Telegraph, Nuts, Daily Mirror and MMA Unlimited websites.
All UFC fans in the UK and Ireland will be able to see the hotly anticipated all-British collision.
Saturday’s (November 14) three-round welterweight war will kick off at approximately 7.00 PM, directly before UFC 105 goes live on ESPN from the MEN Arena in Manchester.
As well as the free showing of this one UFC prelim fight, the UFC media player will also air Friday’s (November 13) pre-fight weigh-ins, as well as the Fight Club Q & A with Georges St-Pierre live from Manchester. (Is this true-you can watch the Q&A?)
UFC UK President Marshall Zelaznik believes fight fans are in for a treat on November 14, moments before the UFC 105 main card goes live on ESPN UK.
“We are delighted to be able to bring this potential fight of the night to all our UK and Irish fans,” Zelaznik said. “This welterweight fight between Hathaway and Taylor has all the makings of a British classic. Both men know there is a lot at stake in this fight and, given the past history of all-Brit fights in the UFC, we could be about to witness something special.”
John Hathaway (11-0) is based in Brighton and is currently one of the youngest fighters competing in the UFC. The 21-year-old striker joined the UFC in January and has already scored victories over Tom Egan and Rick Story. On November 14 in Manchester, ‘The Hitman’ will face his toughest assignment yet.
“Paul Taylor’s a world-class Muay-Thai fighter and could give anyone problems in a striking match,” admits Hathaway. “He’s also very fit and determined. It’s hard to ever really get on top of him and stop his work rate. He’s always coming forward and looking to scrap.
“I’ve spoken to Paul in the past and he’s a nice guy, but this is all business on November 14. I respect Paul a great deal, but on that night he’s just another opponent for me.”
‘Relentless’ in name and style, Taylor (10-4-1, 1 No Contest) is a fan favourite from Walsall, England and a renowned kick-boxer. With six UFC bouts under his belt, Taylor has already cemented his reputation as one of the organisation’s most exciting battlers.
“Whether he’s winning or losing, Paul always brings his A-game,” adds Hathaway. “He’s never let anyone down and always pushes his opponent to the limit.
“Paul gets a lot of ‘Fight of the Night’ honours and there’s a good chance we could share another on November 14. I’m ready for a war and it would be a massive statement if I could stop Paul within the distance.”
Fresh off a win over Peter Sobotta at UFC 99, Taylor now looks to put together a ‘Relentless’ run of victories that will see him climb the welterweight ladder.
“I’m really looking forward to fighting John and getting another win,” says Taylor. “He’s a talented, young and hungry fighter with lots of potential, but I feel I’m more experienced and seasoned than he is. I’ve been in involved in some great UFC wars and I see this fight with Hathaway as being another ‘Fight of the Night’ candidate.
“The fight reminds me of when I fought Paul Kelly at UFC 80 in Newcastle. We both went at it hard for three rounds and grabbed ‘Fight of the Night’ honours. The only difference this time around is that my hand will be raised at the end.”
