Dana White's Contender Series, Season 8

Episode 8 (10/1/24) Montes submitted Carlos Calderon via Anaconda choke at 2:38 of the second round

When and why did you start training for fighting? Since I’m a kid I trained martial arts. It’s my passion

Any accomplishments in amateur combat sports? Muay Thai champ and jiu jitsu champ

What are your current ranks in martial arts? Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and black belt in Taekwondo.

What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? My Contender Series fight. I took it on short notice, and that’s the one that made me realize I’m ready for the big leagues.

Who is your favorite fighter and why? Conor McGregor, because he evolved the sport and changed the game in many ways.

Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? Yes, my favorite singer is Elvis Presley. He showed me that anyone in this world can achieve their dreams.

What was your job before you started fighting? Teaching martial arts

Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? Yes, I would love to use my platform to raise awareness about mental health. I lost someone I really loved because of it, and it’s something very personal to me.

Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? My biggest motivation is my family. I want to make them proud.

Origin of nickname: I have dedicated my entire life to this sport. I left my country and my family to fulfill this dream. I made a promise to my mom that I would achieve the highest level of this sport and that is where my fighter name, "The Promise," comes from.

Tell us about your life outside of fighting: I’m a chill guy who loves sports and adrenaline. I have four pets, three dogs and one cat and I enjoy a lot of different hobbies like soccer and cooking.
