When and why did you start training for fighting? I started fighting as an amateur in 2015 out of curiosity, but it quickly became a passion.
What ranks and titles have you held? TKO world featherweight champion and the interim lightweight champion.
Do you have any heroes? My favorite fighter is Anthony “Showtime” Pettis because as his nickname is saying he always gives a great show and it’s super natural for him.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s the biggest organization in the world; it tells I’m part of the elite and it’s a dream come true.
What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? My fight with Victor Henry showed me that I can be at the very top in the bantamweight division. Changing weight class has done wonders for me and my career.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I was going to go to the police academy to become a police officer before starting my pro MMA career but put that on the shelf.
What was your job before you started fighting? I was doorman in a bar in my hometown and I was also giving Muay Thai privates.
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? My amateur record was 8-2 and I was an amateur champion in Canada.

Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? I would love to create more awareness for the prevention of suicide. I’ve already helped some foundations for that but would like to do even more.
Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? The liberty to spend the more time with my wife, my son and my loved ones.

Tell us about your life outside of fighting: I have a 1-year-old son (Hector) and a lovely wife. I like to take care of the house and the family as well as my dog Leo. We also love to travel the world as often as possible.
What is one thing that you want UFC fans around the world to know about you?
We are not special, we are just working very hard and if you work hard you can achieve all your dreams.
